Creating a masterboard

We start with a 12 x 12 page and cover it with different papers to create a neutral background as our basis.

Choosing focal points

Once the background is complete, we choose colorful images that will be the focal point of each card.

Embellishing to finish your piece

Lastly, we look for small colorful additions that will complement the focal point and bring cohesion to each card.

I’m Margarete Miller. I make art with old papers, create collage-related art books, and encourage people to dive into collage through small classes and my monthly membership. I really enjoy working with vintage materials and turning them into something new. It's been great to see a community grow around this—people who also love crafting and the stories behind old things.

FAQs

I’m new to collage. Is that ok?

Yes. The concepts and techniques that we’ll be covering in this class are very approachable for beginners. There are also printables to use in your work and add to your stash.

How much time will it take?

It depends on how much you do at one sitting and quickly you work. You can finish them in a couple of hours, or spread out the project over a couple of days.

What materials will I need?

In addition to glue (glue stick is fine) and scissors, you will need papers you can use as background, such as book pages and scraps. If you have some images you want to use as focal points, great!

What if I don’t have a printer?

It’s not necessary to print out the files I provide. Perhaps they’ll give you some ideas of what you already have at home. You can also print at your local office supply store.

How long is the class video?

It’s 30 minutes long. It’s self paced so that you can stop and start it as you are creating, if you need more time to complete a step. You can watch it immediately after purchase.

Will I have access to the course forever?

You’ll have access for the lifetime of the course, for as long as I continue to run it.
