It’s a new year, and we are starting our artswaps with a postcard swap. The theme is
Planes, trains, and automobiles
I chose this theme because we’ve all been stuck at home, waiting for this pandemic to subside. We’ve been anxious to get outside, to move freely, and for some of us, we’ve been waiting for it to be okay to travel again. This postcard swap is all about mobility
Planes, trains, and automobiles are some ideas, but anything that shows mobility is good, such as a ship or other forms of transportation. Here are a few examples:

It costs $5 to participate, and the fee includes your return postage and envelope.
To sign up, head to the Collage Art Collective, art forum.
Here are a few more details if you are interested in considering participating:
- Your collages must be originals that you made and not copies, even if it’s your own work.
- When you make your collages, use papers only, no bumpy embellishments
- At least a third of your paper elements should be vintage or vintage-inspired
- You may send in as many as four cards. (You will get back the same number you send, each from a different artist)
- If you are using a varnish or top coat, wait at least 24 hours to make sure they are completely dry. If the surface is still tacky, rub a wax candle over the top.
- Write a small note on the back side, or at minimum, your name and city where you are from.
- Include a mailing label with your name and address, so that I know where to return your swapped cards.
- The deadline is February 15. Please mail in your submissions by that time.
- Postcards will be mailed out the week after the due date.
I’m so excited about participating in the post card swap. Just waiting for my request to join group has cleared. I could look at your collage pages for hours…
Hi Margarete, I’m so excited to be participating in my first post card swap. Just a couple of questions. Post cards are generally 3.5 x 5.5 inches. Can I make cards that are a little bigger, say 4 x 6? Also if I have vintage paper item can I use a copy of it or the original?
Thank you
Karen
Hi Karen, 4″ x 6″ is good. Copies of vintage papers are fine, as long as the images are clear and not blurred when printed. Thanks for clarifying.
Can we send $5 fee with postcards when mailed?
Sure, that’s fine, Pam.
Sorry to be dense, but where do we send our post cards? Address?
Hi Gayle, signup is here: https://collective.margaretemiller.com/groups/3846234/feed
Hi there. I signed up and paid the $5. Was there supposed to be an email with follow up instructions? Thank you!
Erica Lindahl
Hi Erica, If you signed up at the Collective, all the info and directions are inside the Circle. Here’s the direct link if you need it: https://collective.margaretemiller.com/posts/the-theme-for-this-swap
Question: were the postcards for the swap mailed out already? I check my mailbox hoping to get “happy mail” every day, but nothing has gotten here yet.
I mailed them on Friday, Angela!! Hopefully you’ll have them by mid-next week if you are in the US 🙂
Just got my swap cards! So fun! Vintage cars, Hot Air Balloons, and a Covered Wagon! Thank you Lynn, Maria, Linda & K from MI – great job everyone!
Awesome, Patty! I’m so glad you like them 🙂
